Default Cruise control - A couple of questions

Hi all,

Got a couple of questions on the cruise control operation for my MY16 V60:

1. If the car is in cruise, can you make the car auto brake when it hits a new lower speed zone automatically rather than me having to press the up/down buttons?

2. Can you set the car to cruise down from the current speed to the lower speed zone it knows is coming up based on map/GPS information to stop it having to use the brakes at all? If it knows the current speed, distance and new speed plus inclines/declines it could work out when to start coasting.

3. Is there a way to display the coolant temp when cruise is active? If you activate cruise, the temp gauge disappears as the cruise gauge is overlaid. Really the temp should just be a numerical value that could change colour to indicate if under/at/over setpoint.

Isn't that only a problem in 'performance' display mode?

Shame, shame and as Zebster said below, if in Performance display theme mode, the cruise set speed is a 'bar' graph/gauge like the power meter, but if you activate cruise you no longer get to see the temperature gauge as the cruise gauge replaces it.

Shame, shame and correct. I only really like the Performance theme out the three to be honest, and only in dark contrast mode, but this one also has it's issues such as the temperature gauge issue.

I really don't see why they didn't just make this a numerical indicator like the outside temp and time. Oil temp would also be nice, especially in Performance mode.

The power meter should also show the current gear number. It's just little bits like that where the display is let down which have been addressed to some degree (not fully) in the newer Not sure how the latest Android displays look/work . . .

The gear number does display in performance mode on an auto when using it in geartronic mode.

On Q's 1 & 2 I agree it's a no.

If by geartronic you mean manual mode, yes, it does. It doesn’t show in standard Drive or even Sport mode.

Performance mode means just that, and as such should show the current gear number regardless.

Not understanding what advantage there is to knowing what gear is selected when in fully automatic mode. In a manual, yes, you know what gear is selected but in a auto I can't see the need. Or put it another way, if you knew what gear was selected what would you do about it.

Yep in auto you just need to know the cars in Drive, Or sport numbers don't mean anything once you start using the auto box in manual mode you get the numbers as you can't tell by the position of the selector.

The same argument could be said for the power gauge. What use is that, who’s ever used it, what purpose does it serve in Drive or Sport or even ‘manual’?

Knowing the current gear number for any mode is just a basic function that should be shown so you have an understanding of what the car is doing. This is much more useful than the power gauge. Use the redline on the rpm counter and your ears if you want to know how much power is available.

Volvo missed a simple thing here. Performance mode should have shown everything, gear number, power (as percentage but to be honest it’s redundant), coolant temp even if cruise active, current cruise speed (if stored) and oil temp etc. All basic indicators for a ‘Performance’ theme. Look and BMW, Audi and Mercedes, that’s what Volvo should have/should be implementing.

Not arguing, merely curious as to what advantage there would be knowing what gear the auto had selected.
