RE: roof bars
Morning.
Do you mean roof bars ( side to side) or roof rails (front to back). Roof bars are secured with locks or with tiny torx type allen screws. Not sure about the roof rails. Mine have small plastic lugs that look like they can be popped out close to the roof surface. You may find someone willing to do an exchange with you as they will have the infil strip needed if removed and they are always popular in the items wanted list as volvo charge a fortune. RE: roof bars
Finny,
You don't say if you have an 850 or v70 ! I have an 850 estate which does not have the roof rails. Not long after getting the car I was advised to remove the plastic strips that run the length of the roof and down the front sides of the windscreen, and re-seal the holes in the roof ( where the rails are mounted ) because that may have been from where I was getting a slight water ingress from in the boot. I did this and it stoped the water getting in. If you remove the rails, then you will need to replace them with the 2 plastic strips, a main dealer part I would assume, unless you are lucky enougth to find a breakers yard that has some. My strips were held in place by metal retaining clips, every 5 or 6 inches along the whole length. Some of which were rusted so I decided to replace them with new ones. These cost an astonishing 75p + VAT each, and there were about 12 on each side if I remember correctly. So needles to say, I only replaced the bad ones !!! Hope this helps, Regards, Marcel |

RE: roof bars
The plastic strips are extremely expensive as well, since I had to replace the ones on a 850 saloon which lost their black paint due to UV exposure.
Even the body shop was amazed at the cost which was some £120, so be prepared to spend large sums or go looking in breakers as suggested. |

Hi ya,
When you go to the dealer for the replacemnt grey strips thjey are about £125 quid each. Ask for the newer type that funnel the water AKA S70, they have extra rubber bits to stop the water coming around to the side windows, like s70. Mark.
