850 T5R AUTO gearbox *Shafted*

I have a N reg 850 T5R (125k miles)that appears to have a catastrophic gearbox failure, main dealer said its going to cost 8hrs @ 50ukp an hour to "investigate" only.

Thier "usual" practise is to replace the gearbox @ 3500 a throw, good cash if you can get some smuck to buy it I suppose.

I dont have 3.5k to throw at this problem, and I seriously doubt I would throw it at this car anyway, when it goes, it goes well, when it doesnt it costs a shedload, anyway my question is this, is there anybody out there that sell refurb'd gearboxes or anybody that might be able to look at it.

I suspect that I'll end up trashing the car and getting a bike if I dont have any joy with this.

Give Rimacroft ring on 020 8607 9060 and speak to Paul. The company done a rebuild on my 850 20v engine it was good work except for a few bothersome oil leaks.

tks for that just gave tham a shout, Paul is on holiday for 2 weeks but spoke with somebody thats going to give me a buzz back later, hopefully I wont be cutting my throat just yet..

If you are going ahead with the Gearbox replacement a word of advice get them to change the rear oil seal at the same time. If this oil seal goes after the gearbox change it is about a £500-650 to change it. They have a tendancy to go after 100,000 miles I know I've been there.
