Exhaust pipe Outer diameter
hello
i have a 99 S40 na with a 1.8 engine the muffler is starting to go so i want to replace it i looked at oem or as close to oem as possible but i hate the look and the overall size of the box so i started looking into a aftermarket universal muffler and started thinking about deleting the middle muffler/resonator after looking online at some pipe pieces i could not figure out what measurement i needed so i started googling for info from people with the same car or how to do i t meself i tried getting under the car with a tape measure ( in cm ) and got 15 cm ( 5.9 inches ) and read that i have to devide it by pi ( 3.14 )which gave me 47.74 mm online everyone says it has to be 2.5 or 2.25 inches but i don't know how to translate that to a outer diameter measurement in mm ( metric ) and i don't even know if this is already the outer diameter measured from the open end of the pipe or done with a tape measure around the pipe any help would be appreciated Last edited by KingAgg; Jul 6th, 2019 at 15:48. |

My phase 1 2l was 2 inch, and the phase 2 2l I'm now in while the t4 awaits repair is 2.25 inch, on my phase 1 I did the centre silencer and resonator removal and just stuck on a universal stainless rear box I had lying around, it was quite loud, not as boomy as i expected it to be but very raspy lol, I swapped that rear box out for a single exit cherry bomb type thing that made it even more of a rasp monster but I don't think I have a video of that anymore.
