Seat belt housing broken
My seat belt housing (whatever the correct word for it is) is a bit rubbish, and it’s hard to get it to release the seat belt buckle.
When I press the red button down to release, there’s no real click. Sometimes it’s better than others. I find pressing the buckle into the housing a bit, helps. Obviously concerned that if I need to get out of the car quickly, I might not be able to….. and it’s also ruddy annoying. Any ideas how to fix? Do I need to replace the whole housing assembly…which from what I can work out would involve removing the seat? Thanks |

I had this problem on my previous XC60. At one point I was stuck in the car for 10 minutes until I managed to undo the belt. Only solution was a new buckle, this was a warranty job so I don't know what was involved in fitting the new one.

It's been better over the last few days (its very odd). I have read something on here about a pyrotechnic charge in it......

The cause is usually dirt and debris in the slot and children like posting coins in the slot ! The only sure way to cure it is a new stalk , There may be a pyrotechnic device depending on year and model , it is easier to get the seat out as you have to thread the wiring through to the plugs under the front edge of the seat ...

I had this problem a few weeks ago. Found that a squirt of silicone lubricant into the slot resolved it. I now have a nice action on the release button, with the buckle popping out just as it should

I had this when I got my car. I put a bit of WD40 in. (I know I'd be better with other lubricants but it's what I had). It was fine for a couple of years, then needed lubricated again.
So I would try some lubrication before, replacing anything. |
