Default V60 anti stall

Still getting used to my month old V60 D4 manual

What I am about to explain I have never experienced before in 50 years of driving, so is this normal? I have briefly touched on this in a previous thread but am now beginning to understand when this happens.

Car runs happily in traffic at 1000rpm in 4th. If I am doing 35 and the traffic in front is doing 30 I will obviously slow down, but if I don't change down the car will race back up to 35 when foot comes off the brake which can be quite dangerous.

Is this a characteristic that others have experienced i.e., does the car have anti stall? Obviously the answer is to change down to increase revs but I have always been in harmony with a car telling me it needed changing down, but this isn't telling me?

Didn't know whether this should be mentioned to the Dealer or whether it is normal.

I have a similar problem. When in traffic in fifth gear I have to continually brake as the car travels at just over 40mph with my foot off the accelerator.

It went in for its first service last week and I mentioned this, but it is still the same.

Robbie, when you brake does the speed go back up when you take your foot of the brake pedal without putting your foot on the accelerator?

Yes, the car travels at just over 40 mph with my foot off the accelerator.

Mine's always done something similar since new.

A couple of times I've thought there was something wrong with the brakes as it seemed to be very reluctant to stop. I just put it down to being a 'characteristic ' and drop a gear when slowing.

from my experience, diesels always pull. In 1st gear if you gentlry release the clutch pedal without using the accelerator the car will slowly move at around 5 mph, you can then change to 2nd, and it will go a little faster and so on. This is one of the main reasons why when driving in snow up a hill, in a diesel you just let the engine do the work, dont use the accelerator at all, and it will pull its way up the hill without spinning. Done this loads and loads of times. I guess in 5th or 6th it may get up to 35 or 40mph I dont know never tried before.

An old rule of thumb, 20 in 2nd, 30 in 3rd, 40 in 4th, etc., especially in traffic. Too high a gear and the torque and gearing will push you faster than you want! Nothing actually wrong with the car and you'll get a different effect with the petrol engine.

This is normal, even my old Laguna did it, Its very handy for messy starts like snow or mud, stick it in to 3rd gear, gently raise the clutch with NO throttle, it acts like an auto box in winter mode.

Another thing you should be able to do and thats go from start to finish, without using the accelerator at all, not even setting off from a standstill

yes the idle speed is controlled by the engine computer this has been the case for the last 25 years with most volvo engines , also when you let the clutch up in traffic when taking off the engine rpm will go up 200 rpm in some later engines to help you get away . when you are doing 1000 rpm in top gear the gearing is so high that you are doing 35 to 40 mph these days and on the threshold of the idle speed control coming in which acts like a cruise control .
