B18d, haven't come across it before. Details please? What's the difference.

Basically a low compression version of the B18B. Could have an A or B cam whereas the B18B could have a B or C cam with the higher C.R. After about 1963(?) engines would be B18B. Could never see Volvo's logic of calling the engine a D version and then changing to B for the later more powerful versions.
Numbers for B cam are between the A and the C. B not relevant now days but better than the A when used with twin carbs. A bit of a boost fro the USA market who never got single carb B18 engines.

Were these lower comp engines maybe aimed at parts of the world where fuel quality and octane rating were lower, such as Africa? I had series 2a Land Rover (1961) that was low on power which was explained when I checked the engine number and found it was a (relatively rare) low comp version for some foreign markets.
