Whether to buy or not
Just asking whether to purchase an 850 Estate T5. At the mo i have a 1991 940GLE Estate 2.3 non turbo. Is the car smaller as i use to as a workhorse and is usually fully loaded. And i also prefer rear wheel drive for towing. Just after pros and cons? Regards from grollie.

Hi.
I changed from a 960 3ltr Estate, in which I carried all my gear and then got the 850 I still have.Thinking that it seemed a lot smaller, but in reality It would hold the same amount of tools etc, but was a very different animal to drive and five and a half years later its still with us and does everything we would want from a car. Hope this helps.

T5 or not T5
I changed from a 740 to a 850 2.0 litre and found it was no different in size from the 740. In fact with the front passenger seat folded flat I have had 3 metre lengths of kitchen worktop inside it. I am a carpenter and carry vast amounts of materials, tools etc about, as well as finished items of furniture. I eventually changed to an auto 850 T5 and, providing I don't get carried away with the performance, everything is fine. It is particularly good when I haven't got to take much to where I am working. Nothing is better at the end of a hard day than to get in the car, turn the aircon up and be taken home by the car!

The 850 will feel a more modern car to drive, both are good cars, i'd say load capacity wise there wont be much in it with the 940 just ahead on space.
The T5 will offer better performance but in turn will be more to run, tyres/brakes and other service items along with insurance are likely to be more expensive. Cheers, C |

The last post has got it right, new vs older technology, fwd vs rwd.
I would go for a V70 (or 850) T5 every time, had one in the past, looking for one now. |
