Default How do I read codes on pre obd2 850?

Hi all, Just bought a 1994 T5. Previously had a 98 GLE with obd2 port under coin storage tray. I know from previous experience that you can read the LED flashes which relate to codes but I have seen some info about a plug in for under the bonnet next to the washer bottle? Does anyone have any information about this and do I need to rig or buy a simple scanner to get the code flashes?

Not 100% sure with a T5 but next to the washer filler cap are two litle grey boxes about the size of matchboxes, there's a little lead stored in an extra socket on the side of one, you plug that into the appropriate hole in one of the boxes. Haynes Manual for Volvo 850 (3260) has pretty good info and a pictures pages 4A.6~ and 5B.3~ or youtube video here, works like the led blink reader but it was built in.

Scan tool is built in. Has a built in button, led, and jumper cable (the latter is on the A side but is used for both). Attached is the pertinent section of that link.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the help, that clears things up. Loads of info about reading the codes but nothing about plugging lead from one side to the other.
