Default Celtic Tuning Remap

Hey guys,

Just thought Id big up Celtic Tuning.

Booked a remap with them a few months ago, £325 and they come to you. Was booked for 24th Nov (Yesterday).

So yesterday happened, they phoned up the day before to ask if they could change the booking time from 12 to 9, which was ideal for me as car needed MOT after.

Scott came down, gave me a buzz when he go there, said it looked like someone had already been to the ECU, as the housing looked like it been pried apart with a screw driver. They ran some diagnostics to check if there was an existing map and everything else. Gave her a test run and sealed up the ECU properly to keep it water tight.

By the time I had got to the car, he was done. Car went in for MOT and was fine. (Was slightly concerned if emissions might be altered slightly without driving it a bit to settle the ECU, but nope.)

Wasn't a massive difference driving the car home (I live 1 mile away, so car doesn't even warm up with the drive), but did notice it began to pull hard in 2nd at just over 2k rpm as i would get up to 30.

Anyway, had a party last night 20 miles away, so got a chance to give her a proper run. And it is great, general driving just feels more, lively? exciting? like the car is just more eager to get a move on.

But better than that, just going for it, its nuts. Haven't managed to do much timing yet, but i did manage a few 20-60 tests off roundabouts / slip roads and such, and its ~4.5 seconds. This is with a full car, on a C70, Which is the heaviest of our platform cars I believe.

Got some B4's on the way, so that will be the next thing! (and alignment).

Car is now running 280bhp and 335 ft/lb torque.

Defo recommend checking them out if your planning on getting a remap.

Cheers,
Phil

Do you have any plans to put it on a rolling road at all to see what it's actually making?

Im curious as I too looked at Celtic tuning as they were cheaper than both an MTE remap and Shark but was a bit concerned over their quoted figures. 280hp is what both Shark and MTE will flash as a stage 2 WHICH requires a better flowing full exhaust and an intercooler due to the extra heat produced.

So Celtic are either putting too much power through a standard car that the others deemed 'unsafe' or they're not actually hitting 280hp from it.

From Googling it did seem that Celtic quoted too high on their maps (lots of Skoda VRS/VAG cars used them) and very few of the cars actually made what were quoted.

I hope this doesn't come across as a downer - I'm just curious myself as to what it's putting out

Yeah, im aware of dyno issues and +/- figures, unfortunately I dont have a pre dyno run (car has custom Exhaust, so who knows if it made stock power to begin with).

I have no intentions of going out of my way to get dyno figures, so will just take their figures / chart for what it is. If somewhere local does some kinda free dyno day, then maybe.

Because I live down in devon, there isnt a great deal of stuff for cars down here without travelling a bit. And price was a big factor, they where cheaper that the two you mentioned, who I was also interested in, and they are a lot closer than those 2. (I originally planned to go down with a group to get it done and rolling road, but everyone else pulled out.)

Reliability sake, they are a very reputable company down here in the southwest, and ive known a few people to use them, none of which have ever had issues. They know their stuff, and do lots of testing from what I can tell.

All I really care about is, my car has finally got a map, its a fair bit faster, and pulls really well at a lot lower revs compared to before so im happy.

A better test would of been doing drag strips, to see how much faster it is, but I never done them, again, not many local places that do that stuff without travelling.

Yeh I spoke to these guys as I thought about them when getting one but decided against. Definitely need to get it on the rolling road to see what its doing

But sounds awesome, remapped T5 changes the car completely!

Default C70 T5 remap

I had my 2006 C70 T5 remapped by Celtic tuning from 220 BHP to 260 which they said was as far as they could take it without further mods to the injection system. Being a manual, it fairly flew and once rolling was very, very quick. Biggest problem was getting all that power onto the road in a front wheel drive car.

I have recently purchased a 2013 C70 T5 SE LUX SOLSTICE auto and will probably get that done by them as well.

Did you get it mapped a few years ago? I noticed during my time of owning this car, the map has changed a few times, increasing in power and torque. Have also noticed this for a few other cars to (not always increasing though, saw a honda civic map drop about 15hp for stage 1, and the old power figure went to stage 2). So I guess they might always be improving / changing the map till they get a new stable release?

From a rolling start, I haven't had any problems with getting the power down, atleast, not much more than standard, though in 1st it does spin more if i gun it.
