Talking Go for conti's

Hi just converted to sport contact2's from Goodyear nct 5,
Highly recommended quieter no tramlining rides, over potholes as if nothing there.
I did go to 16" from 15" but the tyre section was the same and it just drives overall much better.

This is interesting! My V70 (Mk2) T5 has got worse at tramlining and torque steering. I had this down as worn wishbone bushes, but a friend with a V70 D5 had the same problem. He has replaced the steering track rods and track rod ends and this has massively improved the problem.

Is he an expert? Not necessarily, but he was the parts manager of a Volvo dealer until recently and is privvy to what components frequently wear out and apparently these steering components are a known weak spot.

My V70 runs Michelin PS2s on 17" Thor alloys, BTW.

Default Some do, some don't !

Last week I was able to do a very interesting comparison between my MY05 V70 2.4, and a MY06 v70 D5 courtesy car. While my 2.4 continues to suffer no tramlining symptoms at all, the D5 was surprisingly unstable on grooved surfaces caused by HGV tracks. Both cars are shod with P6000 Powergy tyres and yet I was shocked by the handling of the D5 , which I found quite un-nerving especially in the narrow contraflow sections in our area. I was able to compare the 2 cars on the same sections of road. Given that the D5 had covered only 9000 mls - mine has done 23000 mls - I wonder if the difference could be caused by the front end weight of the cars or possibly trye pressures. I just pray that my car does not degrade in the same way. The service receptionist was quite dismissive when I mentioned the symptom, and claimed that this was quite a common problem, and implied this was a design problem with the V70. Curiouser and curiouser !

Default Re Tyres

Hi, I have used Yoko S306 215x45x17 for the last year and a half and have no problems. I did have 225x40x17 but they were atrocious. Another tyre that I found to be good were a tyre made by Sava. I used them on my old 850 T5 and had no problems with them either.

Lushman always loved yokos since I got some on my bike. Put them on my fiat and they were great.
What are they like on yours as have been looking at them, tread wear and noise?

I'm on P6000, get slight tramlining, not tried anything else, & will be waiting till the P's have worn out before I do, so I can only vote for the P's, anyway, a bit of tamlining keeps me awake.

Default Goodyear Eagle F1 Tyre Pressure

Hi Guys,

On this poll's recommendation, I've just had 4 Goodyear Eagle F1's fitted on my 98 V70 2.5 Turbo. £400 fitted @ tyresave in Connahs Quay (http://www.tyresave.co.uk). All seems good so far, I was on a pick and mix of cheap tyres before (previous owner) though.

What I need to know is what is the correct tyre pressure for this 225/45/R17 tyre ?. I have never known as it's not listed in the manual or on the petrol cap.

Cheers.

Phil

Hi Phil
I bought a new v70 d5 185bhp in September 2006 from the main dealer in S****horpe, right from the word go this car has been a pig to steer,I think more pronounced at lower speeds but down right dangerous in my opinion.Strange when you pay 30k for a car and it will not go down the road in a straight line.
I contacted the dealer to check the tyre pressure's recommended figures
which they said had been modified to 32front 30 rear pirellis 6000 are fitted from new,I doubt these are ideal due to the soft walls which seem to follow any sort of contour larger than a matchstick.
I will pursue this problem until I get satisfaction with the vehicle.
Hope these comments are helpfull.
best regards
Bill Clark
