Alarm System Service Required. Which fuse to remove?

I have a 2004 XC90 D5 S that is showing the alarm system service required message. I'm not really bothered about not having an alarm but would like to get rid of the message that appears every time I unlock the car.

I'd got the impression from other posts that removing the alarm fuse would get rid of the message but it hasn't worked for me. Perhaps I removed the wrong fuse?

I've tried fuses #28 and #8 under the steering wheel as they seem to be mentioned in a few posts but neither get rid of the message.

Am I removing the wrong fuse or does removing the fuse just disable the alarm but not the message?

I'm in the same situation, tried replacing the siren battery , made no difference , tried those fuses myself , still get the alarm message , hopefully someone will come up with a solution .

Hi, my experience is that removing the fuse will not remove the message.

You will probably know that this message is generally due to a failed battery in the alarm system.

This can be fixed by replacing the battery (if you are lucky), or the actual alarm. Nothing else will remove the message.

You probably do not need me to explain that without this alarm, your insurance with regards theft of vehicle or contents is invalid.

Far better just to spend a couple of hours fixing it. ( in my opinion).

BTW, a new volvo alarm siren module will cost about £170. As you have to remove rivets on offside plastic trim and mudguard, the kit includes replacement rivets and replacement security screw.

You need to grind the old security screw off ( looks like a small dome)with angle grinder. I am no expert but took me less than 2hrs. The kit comes complete with full instructions and no reprogramming required.

There are lots of second hand units on eBay, but I suggest a false economy as clearly the battery inevitably will fail after ( in my experience ) 10 years, so why buy someone else's old unit.

I was going to replace my battery this weekend, what type of battery did you use, I got a 7.2v NIMH with similar capacity to the original on Amazon....

Had your battery leaked, was there visible damage inside?

No leak or damage , i tested the original battery and it was u/s ,replacement didnt fix it , worth a go though

Thanks for the replies. In that case I guess I might try and replace just the battery first as it seems to have sorted the problem for some other people. Failing that I suppose I'll have to do the whole unit. Do you know which fuse actually is the correct one as I'll need to isolate the unit before I mess about with it won't I?

I just unplugged mine , cut the unit open then reinstalled , I'm trying a second hand unit next
