STC engaged under normal road condition
My 2002 V70 has recently automatically showing the STC button light as engaged automatically under normal road condition. I always assume this is usually used in snow or other adverse road conditions as it appears in my case light is engaged when in a perfect road condition on a motorway. I tried to switch it off today pressing the button for few seconds but the dash warning light came up. I decided to switch the STC button on again and the warning light went off.
What this supposed to mean. I believe all the above is the expected behaviour under adverse driving conditions as snow but in my case is happening under normal good road driving conditions. Any one out there with experience in this scenario which could point me in the right direction about this issue? |

What light? Do you mean the one on the dashboard or the switch?

That's interesting, so the car things a wheel is slipping, maybe loose axle bolt or cracked abs ring? Was the engine cutting off the same moment?
Fact that you get a warning when keeping the button down may mean there is a short somewhere. Alas, I believe this has a common fuse with the ABS

What is happening is as soon as I switch on the car the Switch is engaged. If I try to switch it off I get imediatly the warning light on my dash. If I press the switch and engage the STC (Switching it on again) my warning light goes off. IS that correct and expected behaviour? Apologies for my ignorance but If I switch it off I get a warning light is that expected as well? BAsically I have to leave STC on all the time otherwaise I get a warning Last edited by soares71; May 27th, 2018 at 19:52. |

I read too fast, as above this is how it actually works. Unfortunately the STC is on by default, and needs be turned off manually in winter mode when the cars needs to climb a steep road with snow or when the car is stuck in snow, to allow the wheels to spin (with winter tires, I always get better traction if the wheel can spin a little). Just keep it depressed for 2 seconds then clear the message with the reset button on the left stalk. In winter I always turn this off after firing the engine, when driving inside the city (I use winter tires)
