Thanks - that's good to know.

Just to clarify, my car is one of the last pre-facelift models, registered in March 2006 (185bhp 6 speed manual).

Hi

I'm about to buy a 2005 xc90 2.4 D5 SE with 40,000 miles. I have never owned a volvo and not had a great deal of experience buying used cars.

I'm concerned regarding the failure of the AWD system, it has a full service history with Harratts.

Would the main dealer tell me if the sleeve (not to sure what this is) has already been replaced.

any advice / info welcome.

thank you

The dealer should be able to tell you all work that they have carried out on the vehicle. I have a print out for mine of all the previous servicing done whilst under previous ownership.

There is a great write up in articles section about DIY sleeve change.

Think I'm right in understanding that his had covered 185k miles before replacement?

I'm on 82k on original sleeve and am thinking about replacement (AWD ok), but it would be interesting to find out what kind of mileage some of the XC's are running on original sleeves.

Realised my AWD had gone after getting stuck in snowy carpark last month in deepest Aberdeenshire.

I took the car to local dealer (Arnold Clark -Aberdeen) and paid £85 +vat (total £102) for diagnostic to be told that the Propshaft is not turning and requires angle gear removal for further diagnostics which would cost approx £650 - to fully diagnose.

I shall follow up with a call to volvo customer relations 0845 7564636

The car is an '05 XC90 D5 Exec with 72K miles and FSH

They are just taking the p*** arn't they. I had the sleeve replaced for £375 at Charlwood Volvo. No "diagnostic" fee.
