You cant get a dog guard for the S40, or that I know of. How big is your dog?

I carry mine in a big crate on the back seat. slide it in flat and then fold it out when inside the car. I have protectors over my rear seats so no damage or dog hair gets to the seats.

Then buckle the crate down with the seatbelts which will stretch around the cage.

I can only suggest you getting dog protector in the "hammock" type, so you tie it up to the front headrests and back headrests (but without folding down rear seats). Had this type of mat in my old S40 and my samoyed was pretty happy with this, also car's interior was well protected.
This, or a crate as Dom suggested

One of reasons i went for "V" model afterwards, though :P
