RE: How Good is The B230K Engine
One small point the B230A does not exist, only the B23A. The designation of engine type in the VIN is the same for B23A and B230FK, the difference being that the B230FK has a Low Pressure Turbo fitted. Only the very early 740s (and contempory 200s) had the B23A engine. All the best, Peter. |

RE: How Good is The B230K Engine
740GLE my dad was doing 50mph when the drunk driver lost control on a bend coming the other way and hit my dad travelling at according to the police report 70mph, so a total impact speed of 120mph was recorded.
My dad only suffered from a broken ( cant thing of the bone's name) where the seatbelt ran across his chest. He was allowed out of hospital that same day. The doors still opened on the car and there was no damage whatsoever to the passenger compartment. And Peter the B230A did exist as an engine, maybe not in great numbers in this country, but it was fitted to 85/86 240's, and it could be found in LHD 740's of 85-86. |

RE: How Good is The B230K Engine
Thank you both for your replies.
Just goes to show you how good volvo 740's are especially as the drunk crashed into your dads car at 120mph combined speed. (I hope the book was thrown at the drunk driver) Just shows they are very safe even after many many years. I believe they are a five star car. I think it was on crashtest.com. About the B230A I will find out also as my dad has a 1985 240 saloon that needs a new water pump so I will check what engine it has before I get the part and then I will fit it. Thanks 740GLE. |

RE: How Good is The B230K Engine
Hi, I have a B230K also and are about to change it into a B230-2K. I'm not removing the Pierburg for 1 Weber, but will be putting on 2 dubble Webers on it. Anyone experience with this?
Greetings WOlwo :D |

Hello,
No, I have no experience of what your proposing to do but maybee someone on the forum might know how to do it. It sounds interesting, are you planning on increasing the HP? 740GLE |

If you read the article in "Technical Driver" number 110 (October 2001), available to members on this website, You will find how just one Weber can improve matters quite well, without a lot of hassle. It is not the Weber that most kits are sold with either. All the best, Peter. |

RE: How Good is The B230K Engine
Oh i forgot to add we also fitted a Jetex Sports Exhaust to my dad's 740GL along with a Jetex Panel air filter to help the breathing side of things. Allthough the cost may put you off but prices for them can be found at either Jetex's website or www.motorsportworld.co.uk Regards Chesh Oh As for twin carbs, i believe finding a manifold to bolt the carbs to can be tricky, allthough if you speak to FoggyJames on here, he has a twin Solex Carb Kit for his 2.0 360GLT and i have also seen a custom made inlet manifold so twin carbs could be used. |

RE: How Good is The B230K Engine
Hello,
Thank you both for your posts. I had a look at the website you sent me and the exhaust seems reasonable, I was always wondering if you could get performance exhausts for a 740. Does it have a nice exhaust note or is it more quiet. Here is the website for webber it is www.webercarburettors.com I just had the replacement carb not a performance one, but that did seem to improve it even so. I may eventually add some performance items when I have done every maintenance item on it. Still to do is to replace the radiator, heater control valve and timing belt tensioner. So far with labour I have spent over £1000. dont know why I didnt do most of the work as they are easy to work on and I more than likely could of saved £600 pounds. I would like some nice 740 turbo alloys for it, as mine has the crome wheel caps/ rings Regards 740GLE |

RE: How Good is The B230K Engine
I have seven 760 alloys available, some with good tyres some with slow leaks. These will certainly fit your 740. All the best, Peter. |

Hello Peter,
What do the 760 alloys look like and what size are they? How much do you want for them? Many thanks 740GLE. |
