Default Bonnet Bra's / protectors good or bad idea ???

Hi all,
Just wondered what your thoughts are on this?

I like the look of them and think it would really set of the front of my car especially the carbon style ones.

Would obviously protect from chips etc .
But will they do more harm to the paintwork by covering up.

Interested in your thoughts/experiences , cheers 👍

Just my opinion BUT I think that they look dreadful and my now departed XC70 looked just fine as it left the factory..

You did ask.................👍

Yeah apparently grit and stuff gets underneath, together with the wind buffeting and general vibration as you drive along, can mark the paint in areas. I guess if you removed it every week when washing the car it wouldn't be too bad.

They look gash though!

Surely a clear vinyl wrap would offer better protection?

Each to their own, but pointless in the UK unless you like 'the look' . Just cheapens your car in my view.

I’ve had the smoked Perspex type on my Freelander and they look ok. They do one for XC’s and V70’s by the looks of it. Bonnet Bra’s are not good for your paint for previously mentioned reasons by other posters. The example on the photo looks ok.

If you like the 'Chavtastic' look go for it. Otherwise, steer well clear.

Why should you consider Paint Protection Film for your car?
Paint protection film offers prevention of Stone Chips and scuffs
Modern water based paint are less resilient to chips than older solvent based paint
Deterioration of roads causing more loose media on the surface
Rising paintwork repair costs
Although there is an initial outlay, the film will pay for itself with the lack of repair costs and the increased residual value when it comes to trading in or selling.
being one,
without the drawbacks as above of dirt/grit/sand getting between the "bra" and bonnet, and wrecking the paintwork

yes Ideally you would
fill , level + polish any stone chips
polish the whole bonnet
Then have the PPF applied professionally (or diy it)
Then get the wings done as well, save stone chips on those
and where the wheels kick up to the bodywork /wheel arches as well,,

Zero risk of any dirt/sand/grit/etc getting between the two and ruining the paint work
No visible change To the car ,,

I think they look good on Ferrari F40s with their ultra thin coats allowing you to see the carbon weave through them. With a lot of maintenance removing them, cleaning them and ensuring dirt and humidity don’t cause issues they can ensure historic vehicles are saved for future vehicles.

When I see then on £3,500 slammed golfs and the like I just think to myself ‘what a rediculous idiot’ doing it for nothing more than style.each to their own but it is a fashion statement that does nothing to protect normal vehicles

😄, thank you all for your responses,

You have convinced me to give it a miss 👍, didn't really coincider the dirt and grit.

Might consider the wrap option at some point, I'll see how I feel as time goes on

Was just looking at the vast size bonnet in silver and thought about breaking it up a bit .

Only just picked up car today and really pleased , looking forward to making it my own 👍

Or get a roll of cling film- much cheaper I would guess......
Cheers, Dave
