Default '11 V50 - Weird brakelight bulb behaviour

I noticed this on my mothers car a while ago and being more of an older car kind of person I really can't think what this issue could be. The left hand brake light comes on very dim and quickly turns off leaving nothing... We tried it a few times and the timing is very consistent.

Had exactly the same issue on my 2012 V50. It was a failed LED unit that was fixed under warranty in under an hour. The part is available separately so shouldn't be too expensive

Sounds like a fairly simple fix then. Are you able to clarify what you mean by LED unit? I'm guessing either the bulb itself or some kind of controller nearby.

There's a board in the light unit that carries the LEDs and some control circuitry. That's all they had to replace on mine to sort the issue and given your issue is just on the one side, I would be pretty sure it's the same issue.

I think it was just a case of taking off the light unit from the rear, swap the board and put everything back together. You could possibly get a working light unit from a breakers and just use the circuit board but I think you'd still be cheaper with a new part from Volvo
