Default turbo petrol gearboxes....any differences?

Rs anyone know if there are differences in petrol turbo gearboxes?

For instance. Will a gearbox from a 2000 2.0t go onto a 2003 t4 without Any problems?

Are they the same box?

As far as I'm aware they are the same I can't really see there being any difference

Pretty sure I read somewhere on here that Volvo M56 gearboxes are the same for all versions except 1.6 and diesels (renault-boxed) - and nominally compatible with a Volvo 850/x70 as well despite final gearing ratio differing

Among x70s differing drive ratios were produced.

I asked this question ages ago after I bought an 850 T5 box as a spare for my old T4. The 850 T5 box definitely doesn't fit and I'm pretty sure none of the T5 boxes will fit on the T4 due to different mountings.

Also the later T4's had a different number of splines to the earlier models from memory. Not a lot of info on the forums TBH and it was long time ago i researched it.

As above the X40 splines were 21 pre 2002 and 23 after .....same on the V70`s etc. ......so of course the clutches are different also!
