locked rear seat belts
Hi, anybody got a solution to my '2002 V70 estate' with 'locked' rear seat belts, I had probs with the release catch as usual the inner tab had snapped, but managed to get the 'screwdriver ' down the side to realease mechanism, however now both the o/side belts are stuck tight, and I can't get the back part of the seat to lock back, so its just folded down, any ideas ?
Thanks FJH |

Unbolt the seatbelts from where they are connected to the chassis, once you do this get the seat upright then fit something through the belt to prevent it retracting further than it should do when you fold the seats, there will be a small hole in the belt through which a plastic rivet style pin/ button should be to prevent the seat belt retracting fully thus not locking the seat down - Mike

As above, unbolt the belt at its anchor point on the floor. Put your seats back up, then stitch a button onto the belt so it will not retract to far in. Had the same problem on my V70 a few years back.

There are supposed to be two buttons on the belt. The smaller of the two is the one that generally falls out. It lives a few inches above the larger one and the hole can be hard to spot. Replacing it may not solve the problem if the entry to the seat back is damaged. I keep a large paper clip under the seat for the times I need to drop the back.

locked rear seat belts
I agree with previous responses. Assuming your rear seat back is stuck down, and won't go back up because the seat belt tensioner is "stuck", unbolt the seat belt at the bottom after removing the side cushion. The seatbelt should now operate freely. I purchased the plastic two piece tab that should be in the belt (it had fallen out) from my dealer ($8.48 each...ouch). When reinstalling the tab, I found I needed a soldering iron to heat the plastic tab so the two pieces would "stick" together. Now the seatbelt will no longer go too far back in the retractor so as to get "stuck". Problem solved! Good luck with yours...

locked rear seat belt
I've had this problem a couple of times, but sadly another member of the household folded seat and forgot the clip!! Have got seat upright again by undoing the bolt, as before, but this time the mechanism is really noisy and keeps catching. I am assuming the little black plastic thing is somewhere in the mechanism. Does anyone have any ideas of what I need to do next?

Seat belt jamming
I posted this on another thread, hope this helps
2005 V70 Facelift I have had the same problem with the seat belts jamming preventing me returning the seat back to the upright position The nearside seat belt has the button missing, but the off side belt has the button attached but still occasional jams. Not wanting to fiddle about with a soldering iron fitting a new button, I purchased from Amazon the following 2x Car Seat Belt Adjuster Car Seatbelt Clip Stopper Strap Buckle Comfort Tension for £4.99 I fitted them where the button would have been. Seems to work fine but time will tell Hopefully should not cause a problem with the MOT |
