Default no power to ignition coil.

the girlfriends 44o gl 1.8 injection b18u has no power to the coil. is there an ignition relay where the power comes from . i have checked the loom in the engine bay and am now looking as to where it goes in through the bulkhead. i guess the next place must be a relay but they are not labeld and the haynes manual is less than useless for wiring diagrams. there used to be an intermittent fault before but apparently rocking the car cured this!!

any help much appreciated

thanks

james

The only thing I can suggest is the obvious I'm afraid, if rocking the car used to cure it then the chances are than one of the pins in a connector is not making contact, wobble the connections to see if you can make it go, and if you find the broken one see why...

I had this problem on the spitty and it was a pin under the dash, to cure I needed to unplug the joint and spread the pins in the connection (Don't know if volvos use this type of connector so check before doing anything!)

Hello

There are two relays under the dashboard on the driver’s side (behind the fuse box). The relays are for the fuel pump and the ignition/fuel ECU. The wire from the coil goes direct to the ECU, which is located behind the driver’s side kick-panel in the foot well. The coil should have a live and earth (both from the ECU) and also a pulsed feed from the ECU.

Check the earth connection on the engine just behind the oil filler cap as these often break and on some engines/ignition systems can cause it not to start.

Regards Chris.
