Question Xc70 t6

Anyone got a T6?

I'm thinking of trading my D5 for a T6, as I'm only doing about 5k miles pa and fuel cost is not really an issue. Just wondering how thirsty they really are, not that the 185PS D5 is anything to write home about.

I rarely get more than 30mpg and then only on long journeys at modest speeds (less than 70 - say 55-65). Most of my journeys are short and local and whilst I don't monitor it closely, I'd say it's probably low 20s in this case.

If you are concerned about running cost, you shouldn't consider the T6.
If you buy the T6, it's for the performance, engine smoothness and general feeling. Completely different values to base the decision on.

They are a different beast. I considered the t6 at one point. But lack of the presence of import models made me consider a much bigger 6 pot. The D5 in my fleet is my "economy wagon". The toy- does the same mpg as the t6... But is much more versatile, and isn't as "urban camouflaged" as the '70. I do love the t6 though.

Update re my previous comment. It's been a while since I really looked at the mpg on anything other than local trips.

Today I travelled 30 miles up the M23 from Brighton area to M25 and reset the computer once I was at 70 and 'autopilot' (adaptive cruise) was set.

Average speed 68mph
Average MPG = 34.8

Better than I thought, but that was pure motorway. Most long journeys are a mix of that and A-roads, suburban, and the inevitable stop-start traffic.

Hope that helps.

That's pretty good and better than my D5. Thanks.

Well, I had a D5 V70 a few years ago and replaced it with a T6 XC70 and I definitely started filling up more often. But for local journeys the diesel probably was more frugal. I've got a few days of very short local journeys coming up, I'll try and remember to reset again and track it.

Just for comparison, I've got a V70 D3 2.0L 5 cylinder auto. On the motorway I'm getting between high 40's to mid 50's. Around town 40-45mpg. It's only 163bhp but has 400nm and can shift when needed. I thought I was buying a slow old bus but I'm pleasantly surprised.

PS @XC70Virgin - I forgot to mention that I did have aircon on LO at half speed (not auto) for that trip up the M23. No idea what impact it has but I suspect it has some effect, however limited, on mpg.
