I have not had to replace the shifter bulb on my '98 V70 auto or any other similar warning light bulb.

However, my Owner's Handbook indicates the bulb is a 12v 1.2w W2x4.6d bulb. This is also equivalent to the modern day T5 bulb. The bulb is a push in type to its holder and it's not therefore necessary to buy a bulb including the plastic fitting. This type of bulb is also used in various other control panel and warning lights.

The bulbs on their own are really cheap nothing like the ££ sugested above.

The bulbs are also the same as fitted to some instrument/control switch lights on my '90 745 with a separate plastic holder with the T5 bulb that just fits/pushes into the holder which I have had to replace.

Check Robert DIY on the Tube on how to remove the console. Fiddly but not too difficult.
