Default Disabling MOST Security

Hi Guys,

Anyone know anyone who will disable MOST security?

My ICM is knackered. Need to install new one. Going to go second hand unit. 2 local dealers in Wiltshire are saying Volvo won't allow them to disable it to fit a replacement as "its monitored by Volvo". THey can however disable it to test with a second hand unit. But have to turn it back on again.

i've just ordered DICE and VIDA. I know i won't be able to do it myself, but means i won't have to deal with the chumps that much in the future.

any tips appreaciated.

TO AVOID GETTING ANYONE INTO TROUBLE, PLEASE EMAIL ME ON SOWENX@GMAIL.COM IF YOU HAVE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR WHO CAN DO THIS, RATHER THAN NAME THEM ON A PUBLIC FORUM.

Thanks very much

My ICM went wrong and I fitted a second hand unit and the radio has worked fine. I got my unit off ebay, the first unit I got was the wrong year and did'nt work (re-sold on ebay), but when I found one out of the same year as my car it worked fine. Have kept old unit to replace back in car just in case I need to contect up to Volvo computer and it detects wrong unit installed.

thanks Martin J. Is it only if its reconnected on Volvo's system and it detects a different part that it shuts down?

Thanks for the tip on the Manuafacturing year. I saw 2 on eby from the States, and they say from 2004 onwards.... I may have to watch out for an 2006 model then.

Ones from US are different mate.
Also if somebody needs spare unit I can supply one. No problems with updates or any online services. Have to check but for 99 % they can be reprogrammed to particular car. Just plug and play.

Hi mate once the most security is turned off any icm should work in the system but try to get a unit from as near in age as you can. The most software is less than 20 quid to turn it off (add 30 quid for labour) the reason why your dealer may say they need to turn it on is that it has this for security so the system is what they term most locked basically the units are tied to the car via most lock?! Just ask any dealer to turn off the most security and take the car away and replace the icm your self and it's that simple?!

Hi Fella,

both my local dealers reckon they're told they not allowed to release the car with the MOST disabled. I even offered to sign a disclaimer, but they said volvo wouldn't let them. they said they could disable the MOST to test with a 2nd hand unit, but had to turn it back on after the test.

I was hoping to get it turned off, so i could then track down a unit and fit myself, but i think they've scuppered that idea. May try a few other dealers further afield tomorrow.

Thanks.

Have you considered getting your unit repaired by BBA Reman?

The issue with Vida is if it's connected up in the dealers it often contacts Volvo main database in Sweden via the internet and if it detects the wrong module numbers (It has a full database of all the modules fitted to your car) it may "brick" the car a it will cost lots and lots of money to fix.

I would guess they are not connecting it to Sweden when they test it. They can fit a new unit of course but I guess you want a cheaper solution?

You may think you will never have to connect to Sweden but there are some things that only Volvo in Sweden can do on the XC90.

thanks to everyone for the pointers. i've just had a quote of £1110 fully fitted (of which the ICM is ICM (Part number 30732642) £827.00 + vat.

i've been onto Volvo UK, and considering the car has not been fully serviced at a main dealers for the past 3 years (only cambelt change and 1 x MOT) when i've used an Indy i managed to get them from 20% to £300 contribution towards it).

Although £810 (after "goodwill contribution") is not welcome to my wallet, its a lot better than i was expecting.

Roy, thanks for the tip. just called, and they no longer do replacements. they said they can test £35 and attempt to repair (£???) which will only be known if i give them the exact model/serial number.

They seem to have a good record on the forum for being able to repair units and the cost has been a fraction of the cost of a new one
