Default Fuel Injectors on P1800E

How reliable are the fuel injectors on the P1800E? What are the common faults and can you still get the parts to fix them?

Ray;

Your one-liner question is like asking...: Is the Space Shuttle Reliable?... and would take a book to answer completely (one has been written! See below!)...in general, Fuel Injectors, as well as other Bosch D-Jet components are highly reliable, but after 50 years, they, and often the connectors of the associated harness, can develop issues.

Many replacement parts are available, some components must be rebuilt, but parts (or rebuilt units) to do this are also available, since there are many D-Jet vehicles in existence, needing support.

Pintle action of Injectors can be stand-alone checked by applying power, but NEVER a full 12V! Apply 12V ONLY(!) through a current limiting 6Ohm 5Watt resistor, and momentarily only, not continuously!

FI troubleshooting book: http://www.sw-em.com/bosch_d-jetroni..._fault_tracing

Recommended reading is the Charles Probst book also listed there: Bosch Fuel Injection & Engine Management

Good Hunting!

I would say they are very reliable. Not so much if they've stood unused for years though, then they are likely to have stuck. That is not a problem though, easy enough to free up with patience. As Ron says, seals etc are available. Injectors themselves are too, but they are expensive compared to modern high impedance injectors.
