When I removed my pump to repair the fuel guage I used a screwdriver and mallet. Just held the screwdriver to one of the lugs on the pump and gently tapped with the mallet then the opposite lug. I alternated between sides and it soon came undone. Same with reinstalling. Just tapped tight.

Similar here, I squared off the end of a small cold chisel and tapped it around on the lugs. When I but it back on I thinly smeared some vaseline around the threads first. Makes it much easier to remove a second time to resolder the wires after your fuel gauge stops woking.
