Default V50 1.6 Petrol 2005

New here so be gentle! About to take the plunge on the above car. Only 42,000miles on the clock. Currently reside in Sweden so purchase value much higher than UK (looking at about 7.5k).

Any strong opinions why I shouldn't buy this car (other than the extortionate price?)

Have looked up to page 26 on the forums and have read quite a lot about sensor, modules, alternator replacements which worries me a bit due to the age of the car.

Haven't seen the service history yet. Will be asking at the garage tomorrow. Currently have the car at home on a test drive and seems to drive well. No clunks, bangs, squeeks etc (which is more than I can say about a Qashqai I test drove last week)

Thanks for any replies (if any)!

Cheers

Essentially it's a sound car that has minor electrical niggles (as do many)

Replace the front wishbone bushes (ideally with powerflex items) so they last forever.

Avoid Pirelli P6000 tyres

Be prepared to maintain it properly and it'll be a great car for many many years

Great, thanks for the info. I've actually managed to get the garage to let me keep the car over the weekend so that I can 'test' it further. As you've probably gathered, I don't know the first thing about cars so It's really a matter of just biting the bullet. The car seems to have been incredibly well looked after. Very clean on the inside. Hardley any scuffs or scratches, in or out. Engine looks immaculate (well the plastic bits are shiny anyway!). It's had 3 owners from new and all appear to have done very low milage (42,000 miles over 7 years!). The only quibble really is that there is no service history. I'm planning on calling the previous two owners tomorrow to ask if they had any problems with the car or if they can advise on any repairs they've had done. I'm hearing a lot of people out here mentioning the cambelt is probably going to need changing soon (well, in the next 20,000 miles or so).

Again, thanks for any replies/advice.

Suzie

Which from a quick search on google is a good thing? No need to change it, but if it 'goes' then I'm looking at major bucks? Right?

sorry suzie it does indeed have a cambelt ( i was thinking the 1.8 then for some reason ) The cambelt doesn't need attention though until 10 years or 100,000 miles

I was wondering actually (not questioning your knowledge!) but I couldn't find any information on a cam chain on the 1.6 petrol, but then started thinking that maybe it was different here in Sweden than the UK. Ok then, that doesn't sound too bad. Got another 3 years to go, or shedload more miles. Cheers for clearing that up for me!

Anyone know what's involved in disabling the passenger side airbag on this model? Newborn baby demands that he sits there!
