Good luck with the dvla, they lost my test pass for motorbike and car, which I kid you nit I had to retake last year, despite having been on a speed awareness course 3 years ago and having 9 years no claims bonus.

I only sent off for a change of address, total idiots, but good luck.

Hi again,

You may find this link useful in working out your full chassis number plate:

http://www.vlvworld.com/indexframe.h...Production.htm

As far as getting an actual build date for your car you will need to contact Volvo archives in Gothenburg and quote your four-digits at the end of the chassis number, a search through this forum will give you the current contact details or someone may have it handy?

Regards,

Paul

Thankyou for that link Cassell. However I'm now even more mystified! My 7 digit number begins with 000 which doesnt correspond to any of those?6th digit isnt 4,5 or 6?7th digit on mine is a 3 which signifies a LHD USA and Canada?
HELP!

That's odd?

Your full chassis number should be something like:
183(1800ES)4(B20E)3(Export)5(Gearbox type)2(RHD)W(1972)0003880(chassis number)

If you reply with your actual full chassis number from either the plate riveted to the nearside A pillarinside the car or stamped into the door pillar on the drivers side between the top and bottom door hinges, we will be able to decipher it.

Hmm from that info it looks as if I am quoting just the chassis number.I'll have to go to where the car is to get the full gen. When I spoke to DVLA last week they said they were sending the forms out, looks like I'll have to remind them.I did find a website that said if you could speak to the right person at DVLA that had knowledge of the early nineties when they archived V5s of cars that werent currently taxed(apparently they wrote to the owners but werent forced to get a reply)because the computer system couldnt cope with the advent of SORN without freeing up computer space.Sorry about the bad grammar!Whats the chances of speaking to the right person LOL!
Cheers!

That all looks straight forward, so your car is as expected, a genuine UK 1973 model in Sea Green!

The contact at Volvo used to be Ulla Bergwall but she has retired now and after looking through the forum for you it would seem that this chap is now the contact:

fredrik.ljungqvist@volvo.com

He should be able to tell you the exact build date for your car if you quote your chassis number 1834352Y000???? to him. As there were no ES models produced after 1973 you should be able to secure historic status and therefore free road tax when you manage to persuade DVLA to issue you with a new V5 and the original registration number!

Good luck!
