Default DAB Jumping

So I have been driving cars with factory fitted DAB for 10 years, and between myself and my wife we have owned Mercedes, Smart, Ford and now Volvo with DAB.

The Volvo is the only car I have ever had DAB skip on. Or rather repeat a second or so when it seems to jump backwards.

Does it several times in a journey. Is happening on routes that were/are fine in other cars so seems only Volvo rather than a signal issue (unless Volvo antenna is poor).

Had an XC60 hire car for 4 months and that jumped, and now my own S90 is doing it.

Is this unique to Volvo, or have I just been lucky to date with other marques?

Had no such problems.

I used to get this at start-up on my last car, a 520D, back when I listened to Radio 2.

After investigation I was told that it was because the car would always start the radio on FM before moving across to DAB; as DAB runs fractionally behind FM I was getting the same audio twice.

Not had it on any of the Volvos, but perhaps it's something similar - perhaps the Volvo moves across to FM when it can't get DAB, then moves back again when signal improves..?

Hadn’t thought about the jumping from FM to DAB and back. I do recall seeing a setting for that so will check it tomorrow and disable it if it is on and see what happens.

Thanks for the help

Hi, I’m only a month in but I’m finding the DAB spot on - I always used it in my Superb but the Volvo signal is certainly a lot stronger and I have had no issues such as skipping. I thought the FM and DAB were 2 different apps?

It's caused by the DAB signal dropping out and the car reverting to FM.

DAB runs about 3 seconds behind FM, so as it switches it sounds like a skip. You can turn off DAB/FM

Settings -> Media -> DAB -> Untick "DAB to FM handover"
