Default Service Upselling

Booked my car in for its first service today and was told that due to the low mileage an engine flush was recommended to remove the sludge that could be in the engine due to the low mileage, basically frighteners I think. I've never had an engine oil flush and have read bad things in the past about it. In any event I'd have thought these "super" fully synthetic oils would keep everything clean and in top condition.
They also tried to sell me an MOT failure insurance policy, which would pay for parts/labour upto £500 in the event of a failure @ £50ish/yr.

I declined both offers, but curious about what others think....

Cheers
Bob

What absolute disgraceful behaviour. recommended by whom? Certainly not Volvo uk for whom they are working on behalf. Is this a UK volvo dealer?

MOT Insurance? who are these people ! A volvo is not likely to fail on anything for at least 10 years except tyres perhaps...

I suggest you report them to VOLVO UK, and the Managing director of that dealer. They are blatantly trying to scam you and all their other "valued" customers...

Something wrong here 100k+. Your cars first service and a '23 model doesn't even require an MOT yet! As for the engine flush that's plain nonsense. Is this really from an official Volvo centre? Surely someone has made a mistake if so.

Think guy said he was in a head office call centre, but he didn't know about Volvo. My initial call was to local dealership, but had to wait after initial contact to be put through to service.
So could be either volvo or stratstone. Feel sorry for the staff, cos they are required to try and upsell in order to maximise profits 📈. Its disgraceful behaviour i know, but sadly its the way of the world in the 21st century.
Thank you for confirming my initial reactions are correct.
Cheers Bob.

All garages are doing it. I just politely decline this stuff rather than get wound up about it. The bit that does wind me up mind is the email that comes in from the garage carefully crafted to suggest that if I will score them less than 9 then I should not bother filling in the Volvo service experience form.

Stratstone no longer have any volvo dealers, they gave up their last ones in 2006 so who exactly is servicing your car whilst still under factory Warranty?

I hate Stoneacre and particularly hate their tedious call centres.

I stopped using them years ago and ended up having to make a GDPR complaint to get them to stop calling.

Chain dealers. Awful awful big chain dealers....

I have had reasonable service since buy out. ( mill to stoneacre) but have had very good service from the stores, and recently central part now based in yarm..
Not really anywhere else to go for dealer service. Only stoneacre from Berwick upon tweed to Harrogate.....

Cheers Bob
