When turni.g in tight spaces, hit full lock and then take a tiny bit back off again. Then they won't rub.

When I replaced my tyres I put on 205/55R16 instead of the 215/55R16 and the wheels haven't rubbed yet.

Just about to post the same!
Hi i have a 2001 V70, on an X plate and both my front wheels rub the inner liners, i even took it last week to have the tracking done in the hope that would resolve it? nope still the same, so do i just accept that this is a Volvo trait and try not to go on full lock?
And with my MOT due in December just try and find someone that understands Volvos? ON the last mot i had advisories for! Cannot inspect sills due to plastic covers. Cannot inspect engine/suspension/steering components due to engine cover tray. Rear springs have paint flaking off. And many more ridiculous items which elude me at the mo! Is this the way of new Mot regs or the tester being a complete dick? |

Hi BobS,
I had similar problems although my car never failed an MOT. Yes I agree with you that the couple of washers will push forward the lock stoppers but you certainly will need a lot more space to turn and parking will be a particularly lengthy and difficult task to do. I sorted out the problem with a 5mm spacer which I glued with contact glue to the inner part of the wheel in the appropriate place on each of the front wheels. I also removed the M6x16 bolt that you can see in the front of the disc to give me the chance of fixing the wheel back to the car without having to be in a particular position where this little almost useless bolt is. No more problems since and the turning went back to the former glory. Not great in Volvo anyway but at least not making it worst. If the problem of grabbing persist just add a new spacer of 3mm on each side. I hope this can help you. |

I have the same problem of tyres catching on the rub plates, but it's running on 18" nebula, It has the recommended tyre size, 235/40 18, I had thought about trying 225's but this isn't a recommended size,
My compromise was to spray black waxoyl on the rubbing plates, it still rubs but it's now quieter, and as it only does it on full lock, it's a decent compromise , Hope this is usefull, |
