850se auto gearbox

my 850se automatic chose today to decide not to pull away at the light when i accelerated. it just revved as if it was a manual in neutral. it is doing the same thing in drive and reverse. any ideas.

will it move if using any other position on the gearstick? also, when it park ,does the box lock like it should?

the gear selects if the car is left to stand for a while, i managed to get home by turning the engine off for 10 min and starting again, managed to travel half mile at a time. i am not sure if it locks when in park. i think it does.
