Default Dpf info

Hi just picked up my 2012 v60 d5. It's a great car so far. Just wondered what the dpf s are like on these as I had nothing g but trouble with my previous seat leon fr. My driving g style should suit a dpf just wondering if there are any points to look out for. My cars covered 50k

The DPFs on Volvos seem to be very robust, not many problems reported (certainly a LOT less when comapred with VW Group cars, or Mazdas for example).

What few problems do occur are usually related to the DPF pressure / temperature sensors failing, but these usually throw a 'check engine' light and don't affect drivability.

it self cleans every tank of fuel roughly . The volvo engines are more reliable in this respect than the Ford ones .

Who asked about Ford ? Does someone have a chip ?

Volvo DPFs are fairly reliable unless you have a D3 with a shonky pressure sensor which is not unknown. If you rag it regularly then you should be OK. I'm at 5 years and 53k miles without failure, that could change but my car has also been remapped. I get a regeneration every 400 miles or so. Sometimes once per tank, sometimes twice.

Default Wondering

Just wondering what "rag it regularly" means ? not too well up on some of the Volvo vernacular.

That happened with my 163bhp D3. Although when the Volvo techs read the codes, the DPF was showing less than 5% soot loading so it was still regenerating, even after the pressure sensor had gone duff.

The only difference in driving that I noticed was, if you gave it full throttle it would pull hard (as normal) for a second or so, but then it felt like you'd lifted off back to half throttle - the car was still accelerating but not as hard. The ECU must have been reducing fuelling to compensate for the duff sensor.
