960 - How not to start the week!

Went out this morning to head away south for work (0300). Scraped the heavy frost off the glass, got in and comfy, turned on the ignition and then started up. The engine started to turn and fire as normal and then there was a small 'bang' type noise and no more compression. The cams are turning over OK so the timing belt is still intact. There is nothing else particularly obvious but then again it is too dark to see anything.

Ah well, emails sent to office about non-appearance and I will wait until later to call out the RAC (just to be able to say that we have covered all the options).

If the worst comes to the worst then 360dood will have the chance to effect a full engine and gearbox swap on a fairly large lump. Just in time as we have arranged for the old spare car to go to the crusher next week-end.

Back to bed for a bit now (sleep that is).
