1992 Volvo 940 stops running intermittently
1992 Volvo kept dying on the road or would not start after it was turned off. Engine would try to start, but it sounded like the air/fuel mixture was wrong or the timing was way off. Problem turned out to be the speed sensor (reference sensor) that goes from the bell housing of the transmission to a connedtor mounted on the firewall.
Try jiggling the cable going to the bell housing sensor and it might make the engine stop if it is running or you might be able to start the engine if it will not start. Check out the missing insulation on this cabe which was causing it to short out. There is a 10mm bolt that holds the the sensor in the transmission bell housing. Entire cable was only 45 USD from a well known source here in Ft. Worth, TX that can get any foreign part and cheap.
