Thank you all so much for the clear pointer on this one, the car sounds or in fact doesn't sound 100% better.

So to sum up, if you have a chuf-chuf in your airbox, go for the hydraulic tappets and rocker arms.

Moral to the story. Keep your eyes wide open on the forum and under the rocker cover, it will save you endless time and money.

Off for a quiet spin and thanks again. sv70 to the top of the class
Mines done this for ever but cost has meant I haven't had it done, cars got 243K on the clock soooooo.
Does it improve the car much mpg or power?

Well Luggsey,i remember you had gave me some pointers when i first asked the
forum on the tug boat-[chuff noise] around 2 years ago,and i did follow your example and just ran it as it was,but the noise finally got to me and i did the lifters for a quiet life, although i'm sure i could have well ran it like that for many more miles. To answer your question regarding mpg and running,i would say apart from it being quieter there isn't much more difference, regarding the mpg,i think it is running better, but that could be the placebo effect, main thing it 's quiet now and it doesn't sound like a barge.
