Default Wheels for XC60

Hi Guy,s
should I have 17inch or 18inch wheels. Road noise is what I am thinking here. Any input much appreciated.
Thanks.
Pete.

For comfort, I would go with the 17" wheels.
Also, there is a greater selection of summer/winter tyres available and are normally cheaper.

Totally agree. I optioned 'down' from 18" to 17".

Using 17" rims for my winter tyres and 18" for my summer tyres I feel I am in a position to comment

The 17" are soft and 'wallowy' whereas the 18" are comfortable giving you a much better connection with the car. The road noise is created by the tyre pattern and the extra 0.5" tyre wall between you and the road makes no difference.

Go with the 18", better choice especially if you use them about 36PSI which is below the eco pressure but above the standard.

I'm not convinced you would notice a huge difference in road noise.

I also have 17" 'plain' alloys for winters and 18" DC (diamond cut) for summer - feels like a nice combination to me, the 17" tyres are definitely cheaper, but many prefer the wheel to fill the rims more from an aesthetic viewpoint.

I'm not overly concerned & if I could only have one set would be happy with the 17" - also less likely to kerb them!
....but if this was from new, the 18" rims are "worth" more, so unless the dealer was offering a discount, I would probably default to the 18".

If they will be on summer & winter, I would avoid the DC wheels though - I suspect they would be more susceptible to erosion.

There. I haven't helped really, have I !!

Chose whichever you prefer the look of ;-)

I have had only 18" wheels on mine running Pirelli PZero Rosso and not found them to be noisy even on cobbles. Comfort seems ok and no discernible wallow on cornering so handling ok. Going up to 20" to try so should be interesting
