If you put tyres on one axle that have lots of grip and tyres on another without grip you will end up with an unpredictable car that is unsafe to drive in conditions where grip is demanded. That, in my opinion, is not a safe combination and certainly not a scenario that constitutes the OP being advised that all 'will be fine'. |

I have just had 2 Cross Climates to replace the OE Pirellis.I moved the existing rears to the front and fitted the Cross Climates on the rear.
Volvo recommend fitting new tyres on the rear if only fitting 2 tyres presumably to give more grip to avoid excessive oversteer. I have not seen anywhere any indication that summer tyres on the front and ALL WEATHER TYRES, as opposed to WINTER TYRES, on the rear is dangerous or illegal. I would not mix summer and winter tyres but have no problem with my setup. The lack of steering feel of the XC60 is a bigger problem..........All IMO of course. |

What tyre pressures are you running - your lack of steering feel is normally associated with running at high (ECO) pressures?

Sounds Ok - just been out to check my car's official 'label plate' which has mine at 33 for my conditions.
Without knowing what type model/year your Volvo is - have your checked on Sensus to see what steering sensitivity your car is set to?

Ity is a MY17 16 plate XC60 SE Nav and as far as I know it is as factory setting. It steers ok, just feels disconnected , sort of numb.

Truth be told- the only argument for CrossClimates over proper summer/winter tires is economy. And I personally fail to understand that (with all due respect for everyone’s choice..) there are people buying €60K or €80K SUVs equipped with latest safety gimmicks- cutting no corners kitting them with bells and whistles- yet skimp on rubber. Skip the B&W stereo, or those massaging seats- and put some proper tires on that car!

I would never consider them a “budget” tyre either.
