The two turbos on the original T6 are identical but a mirror image of each other I have a pair , they are suited best to a 1200cc engine ( individually )

It was a dreadful engine it drank fuel like the tank was leaking and you would never dream it had 272 bhp ,The same as a 5.3 Jaguar V12 .

Well, then I mix up what they put in the cars and Volvo's development announcement here in Sweden, before the engine went into any car.
Both had 272 horsepowers, so that's perhaps the reason for the confusion.

I wouldn't put it past the marketing department to have woven some nonsense into the facts! As far as I can remember, Volvo have never had a small/large turbo setup on a petrol engine.

I think the main issue with the T6 was the gearbox - highly prone to early failure, and pretty miserable when it was working!

The engines go well when attached to a manual box (usually in a 2/7/900!) and with a larger turbo (usually just one, as there's the space). They did have plenty of low-down grunt in the original application, though.

If I remember correctly, from a very long time ago, 3 cylinders was optimum to feed a turbo charger.

That would explain the use of 2 x turbos for an inline 6 on separate groups of 3 cylinders. Variable vanes etc allow the low down spooling that did not exist years ago.

Maybe it wasn't actually 272 bhp to protect the gearbox a bit ... it certainly didn't feel like it ,in all the different ones I drove.
