I just wrote to Volvo Ireland. It will be interesting to see how they respond to this.
I have reconnected the seats for now. The passenger side is in perfect condition.
Drivers side has had broken wires - repaired now,and well insulated. Does get a bit hot though.

Hi i work in a volvo dealer and this recall has been out for over a year. Letters should have been sent out to all owners of these cars but only if volvo knew the addresses.

Yep, just called my local Volvo dealer today to see if they could tell me if my '96 850R had ever had the work done to the seats (I hav'nt had it very long) - they told me right away (after telling them the reg. no.) that it had not.
The car is now booked in next Friday for the re-call work and two new C/L remotes to be supllied and programmed as the car came with just the keys.

Today I checked with the main dealer. My seats wre checked in 2005 before had the car. Still not chuffed though.
Wonder why they dont put a stamp in the book to say so!

Ordered new tail pipe section and fuel filter at same time.

Default letter FROM Volvo

I wrote to Volvo about this. They sent a prompt and comprehensive reply. Their stance seems reasonable.
Their reply is attached (its a scanned image of the letter, if you click on it you can zoom in until its legible)
What do you think?

Actualy this recall has been out for around 8 years ! They are now chasing up lost cars that didnt respond to the first recall ... much as they did with cooling fans last year ...
