Hi all,
An advisory on my last MOT
was rear trailing arm rubber bush (both) deteriorated
but not resulting in excessive movement.
Any idea what i should be paying a garage to replace as i am no mechanic and too old anyway.
Thanks in advance for your wisdom.

Many old rubber bushes show signs of splitting upon visual inspection, but as there is no play/movement when moved about with a pry bar....it's a pass.
Only a fail when there is.

Had the same advisory 4 years running on my 1999 V70 and the tester explained why.........

So if it fails the MOT they need doing, or checking out if you are getting "clonks, squeaking or uneven tyre wear".......

Hope this helps

Default MoT advisory

I've had this on my Feb 1999 V70 T5 for the last three years running but not this year! Didn't have anything done though, to make it disappear??!!

The MoT is a subjective test and so unless you want to spend a lot of money, I would forget about this until next year - it may not be a fail then either.

Yeah.. I've had exactly the same scenario. MOT's are subjective.. I got pulled on a trailing arm bush a year or so back, and to be honest there was no more play than the previous year when it passed. Zilch..

Anyway, I bit the bullet and changed both sides. I can't afford to pay others and I have the skills so I had to get stuck in. They'll see the car out now anyway.

As the other guys have said, and you've acknowledged.. if there's no substantial movement the car should pass. I think my failure was purely due to someone getting out of bed the wrong side and desperately looking for something to pick on..

Ernie hope you are well

I agree with all the previous posts. My V70R came up with rear arm bushes on MOT before last. Oddly new Nivomats on the back between MOT's, no more intermittent squeaking on the back end and not even mentioned as an advisory this MOT

As is often said Happy days !
