Default After service Oil issues

Hi I recently had my car serviced at a local garage and since I got it back I have a warning light on saying I need to add 1 litre of Oil but the garage assures me they have already put 5.1liters in plus an additional 0.5 liters. I am worried if I put the additional 1 liter in then it maybe too much oil. Can anyone advise. Also the dash board tells me there is no information on how much oil is in the car. A bit annoying to be honest.

I don't really want to have to take it to Volvo to resolve as it will cost me another £150 + VAT which I don't really have at the moment to spend.

Why would it cost you for another garage to sort out a problem they have caused. You have already paid them for the job, they should have carried it out correctly. Some of the later cars need the oil level sensor calibrating, so if this is the case they should have done it.
Surely it is up to them to sort at their cost.

Thanks Iain for your advice but to be honest I don't usually go to local garages and stick with the main dealers for this very reason but however I have done this and spent most of Saturday morning at the garage and they didn't have a clue, (which didn't give me confidence in them) don't get me wrong I have used this garage in that past with my other cars and they do a great job. Just this is stressing me out and just want it resolved.

Hi
If they took the job on and you paid surely it is up to them to sort or take it to Volvo to sort. Or give you a refund

Well I will take it back to the garage tomorrow morning and see what they can do. Just frustrating that it happened over the bank holiday weekend and the time I have wasted. I was looking for suggestions and if anyone else has had a similar experience and how they resolved it. I mean it is obvious that I will give the garage a chance to rectify this issue before I go down the route of asking for a refund or taking it to Volvo.

I think the electronic dipstick needs to be re-calibrated after an oil change so quite possible this has not been done by the garage unless they have Volvo diagnostics.

The electronic dipstick can be reset by Volvo dealers through VIDA to reset the oil level reading. This is just a short cut to prevent oil level warning messages until the system has otherwise reset itself.

Without the VIDA reset, and as long as you are certain that there is sufficient oil in the engine, the system will have reset itself after a journey of approximately 30 km and standing on a level surface with the engine off for more than 5 minutes.
