Oil light and engine oil
Hello and thank you for reading this message.
Two weeks ago my 2006 1.8l V50 would not start. I called the Volvo service engineer offered as part of a one year cover with dealer servicing. He told me that the engine had flooded. He started the car but the electrics on the dashboard all cut out. He reset the electrics by taking the battery connector off for a while. So at that point all good. Today I have checked the oil. Nearly nothing. There are no leaks and I have a comparatively high mileage of 20,000 per year compared to only 7,000 per year for some years. The oil light came on about five months ago and I put more oil in. But this time no oil warning light. Obviously I did not put in enough new oil last time. But question, would my car have not started due to too low oil level? And is there a common fault about the oil warning light not coming on? Thank you. |

Have you kept a close eye on the oil level? These early 1.8l engines are notorious for burning oil once they pass 80,000 miles. When I got rid of mine at 105,000 it was having to top up the oil every time I refueled.
By the time the low oil light comes on, the oil is already well below the min mark on the dipstick so shouldn't be used in place of regular checks of the dipstick |
