Default "Disc not recognised"

After a year of working perfectly, my CD player now does not recognise any disc. It just spits them out,

Any ideas? It's been freezing cold recently, but I'm sure a Swedish car can handle zero degrees!!

CD and DVD player lasers don't like the cold.
Lasers and batteries are like humans: they don't like being old and cold.

My nav DVD player will, in winter, every now and then say it cannot read the disc.
Open and shut the door and it works again.

You options are:
1. Live with it and wait for Summer
2. Remove CD player and clean laser to see if it improves it
3. Replace the laser (or entire player)

Yes, it was too much of a coincidence that it was 0 degrees the first time it happened.

It was loaded with 6 CDs which had been working perfectly. Now all 6 were 'unreadable'.

Hopefully it will resolve itself when it gets a bit warmer. Radio until then!

Mine did this about 5 years ago in the summer! has never worked since. Any combination of disc 'trays' and it will load them in fine, spin them up, and then say 'disc unreadable' or something equally annoying.

These units are coded to the car so the only fix is to either buy a second hand one and transplant the mechanical bits to try and make it read discs again or send the unit away for refurbishment. Can't remember the name of a firm that was always recommended on here but a search might reveal that.
