Default Fuel Consumption

I have a beautiful Volvo S80 2015 Nav Auto diesel which I love. The only small question I have is that I read that I should be getting high 40's to low 50's per gallon on my usual short stop/go journeys. I am retired and getting on in years so I am not a boy racer.
Am I misinformed by these reports or is my 37/38 per gallon more accurate?
I have noticed that it did improve over last summer's heatwave and I do get considerably more on a longer run.

Thank you I-S.
I am not actually complaining about this fuel consumption as I previously had, and managed to get rid of, a Chevrolet Captiva which achieved an eye watering consumption of 22mpg ON A LONG RUN and 16mpg towing our caravan.
This is yet another reason for my love affair with my gorgeous Volvo.

My wife had an auto S80 in which she averaged 39mpg over 10 years ownership in mainly city stop start driving? It was a pre dpf model.

On a long run at 70mph she would get 54mpg.

I find it ironic that fitting a dpf reduces pollution but you actually BURN almost twice the fuel per mile! Which means MORE particulates anyway!

You're exaggerating. I refuse to belive that my car would be happy with less than 3.5 l/100 km diesel if I remove the filter. That's what a small VW Up can run on.

I barely understand mpg please don't start on lpkm.

Dihatsu Charade achieved 80s mpg if I recall correctly.

There must be a finite amount of filtration that can be used? My S80 (d5 auto, no dpf) ran around 43/45 mpg overall. My S60 (d5 auto, dpf) runs about mid 30s if I'm lucky! Same engine different bhp. So no dpf good mpg bad particulates, dpf worse mpg better particulates....... Even tougher dpf standards and really bad mpg??
