Mmmm should I wash them or leave them until next summer, thinking about taking them off to swap the fronts with the rears to even out the tyre wear, it would be easier to clean them while they are off.
My wheels are terrible to keep clean so I hardly ever bother but if I have them off I might put something on them to protect them or make it easier to wash the grime off.
Any suggestions as to what to use.

Rule no 1. Always have the tyres with most tread on the rear.....

What you need is the below - I have used it on my last 3 Volvo Alloys which makes cleaning them much easier & protects any diamond cut surfaces. There will be cheaper prices on Amazon!

Couple of things...

WASH THEM. Brake dust contains a lot of iron, and it can rust on the wheels - that makes it very much harder to get off than when it's just powder.

Once washed, wax them! Or something like the above C5. If you do this, then in future 90% of the brake dust will come off just with simple pressure wash, so you don't have to bother too hard about cleaning.

I just wax mine with ordinary car wax or polish.
Obviously giving them a good clean first.

I changed to my winter wheels and tyres two days ago. I always thoroughly clean the wheels I've taken off and apply a coat of wax. Likewise, I do the same to the winter wheels when they come off. After two years swapping the Volvo's wheels, all eight look like new. Total time to swap the wheels and clean them is less than two hours.

Incidentally, the increased comfort and reduced noise on the winter tyres never ceases to please. All the more surprising as my winters are Contis; tyres which aren't exactly famed for their low noise. I suspect that the smaller wheels and larger sidewalls on the winters have a lot to do with it. The improvement really make the car feel more of a premium product.
