New bearing on order.

Thanks for all your helps chaps.... as usual.
Thought so..... I'd consider lobbing a new sensor on as well just in case that's been damaged, if the case has been cracked it might let water in which may cause a failure at a later date.

Hi

Just had the same error on our XC, but after looking at live data, I have ordered a new sensor.

May be bearing... we will see, but live data was showing random drops in speed by 30%-40% of actual road speed.

Has anyone seen this and its been the bearing?

No difference for me re turning any direction....just once every couple of miles the data will show a few dips in reported speed.

Thoughts?

David

PS - changing the sensor looks like more hassle than changing the bearing!

getting the bearing off was a pig. Hours of slide hammering and penetrating oil. After that, the sensor was a doddle. I had to do both as the bearing play had caused interference with the sensor causing deep scores in the magnetic sensor ring...

Anyway, 5hrs, and its all DTC clear again.

That is a good call... I will soon see when I remove the sensor if the bearing has been touching.

Is it easy to see the state of the ABS ring on the bearing while on the car? From images, it looks like its hidden...and having replaced both front rings I know how badly they can rust.

David

Yes - you can see the centre ring with the bearing on. Mine hadn't rusted. It was bearing play the caused the issue when cornering, touching the sensor. Didn't hear or feel any play or issues part from the DTC when turning left only (right rear bearing)

Hi

I notice that some rear bearings are supplied with a tube of a grease of some sort.... and notably, the SKF ones do not.

What grease is required here?

Thanks

Guys

I just received an SKF VKBA3627 bearing and there is no visible sign of any ABS "ring" on the bearing.

I had assumed it was part of the bearing "assembly" - can someone confirm it is not!!??

I guess it may be behind the rear seal/finisher.

Thanks

Exactly. It's not castellated like the front ones. It's a smooth inner magnetic ring.
