Default 1965 Amazon 122 Project

I recently rescued this 1965 Amazon after it had stood unused since 1998.

It is totally original, and is complete except for the rear bumper. Hub cap and trim missing in this photo is in the boot.

There is a little non serious rust in the lower rear quarter panels, door bottoms, and the end of one cill. The front was damaged when the owners modern Volvo burnt out a couple of feet away, (small dent to front panel, blistering to bonnet).

Solid underneath and engine bay side panels.

The owner claims he spent a lot on the engine and suspension before it was laid up. The engine turns over by hand.

The interior in light blue is in excellent condition, just needs a good clean.

Far too good to break for spares.

£500

Car is in Leigh-on-Sea Essex, delivery could be arranged at cost.

CVS

I would really like my garage back before then! I don't want to keep it in the open over the winter.

I could arrange local undercover storage at your expense if you bought it now.

Brian,

Thanks! - But to be very honest- it was maybe more of a dream.. If someone would make it street legal for me - I would use it to cruise the UK in, next spring/summer!

It's a rare color scheme - had it the wheel in the "right" side - it would be sold easily over here!

And 500 has to be a bargain - even over there??..

Hi Brian, do you still have your Amazon? Do you think it would go? Could it be driven to Scotland?
I will give you your £500. If you thought it worthwhile I will get the train down to Essex and with the use of trade plates would try n drive it back.
What do you think?
I will phone you tomorrow.
Cheers
Bob

Bob

I am not sure if your request is a wind-up. The car wouldn't even get to the end of my road in its current condition.

It has stood for 11 years.

Three of the tyres were in the condition of the one you can see in this photograph. To be able to move it I have used the one that still held air, the spare, another spare wheel that I had in my shed and another old tyre that I got from my local tyre shop.

Before driving it, it needs a new battery, four new tyres, a full check and overhaul of the brakes, the petrol tank and all pipes cleaning, and probably the water hoses replacing.

All normal jobs to recommission any car that has stood for many years.

If I had the time and inclination to do all these jobs, I would MOT it and then want at least £1000 for the car.

It has to be trailered away.

Hi Brian,
I can understand how you thought this was a wind up. The pictures gave the impression that it might have been possible but you are correct when one thinks of the time it has been laid up.
There are a number of bits that I could have made use of, particularly the upholstery etc. but it is a long way to go for the car. And if it is possible to put back on the road it would be a pity to cannibalise it. We need more Amazons and not less.
If you get the chance give me a ring on 01334 654925.
Cheers
Bob

Ooh same colour as mine, except cleaner ! The rear seat top is starting to split on my 64 but this interior seems to have weathered the years well. Definitely worth restoring !
