There's an O ring and a small hole in the end of the shaft. My guess is it takes an oil feed from the camshaft to lube the impeller/paddle thing then as you say its then exhausted back into the engine via the reed valve.

I would expect having the correct oil in the engine makes the big difference to how effective this pump is. I have a slightly thicker oil in mine at the moment(10w/40 instead of 5w/40) so from cold the oil would be slightly more viscous, perhaps thats why I get a much better vacuum when the car is cold than when its at running temp.

Just had mine done. Labour £124.20 Engine Mount £89 Plus VAT. It wasn't generating a fault code but the engine had dropped by about 25mm.
Hi Roy,
with the engine dropped by 25mm did you get any mechanical noises to indicate this? ie clunks etc.
Cheers
Larry

No, nothing. It was picked up by Charlwood Volvo on a routine service.

The Vacuum Pump eventually turned up and I can confirm there is a "Reed Valve" on the exhaust side of the pump.

However there are "One Way Valves" in both the inlets, here's a pic of the valve in the inlet for the brake servo.

I'd expect the one way valves, as they would prevent a loss of vacuum to the servo in the event of an engine mount/associated ancillary failure..

Just a quick one - This item ISN'T a "boost control valve" it is in fact the "engine mount control" it is connected ONLY to a vacuum source AND the engine mounts, it does NOT control the turbo or boost levels in any way - The only thing it has in common with the turbo, is that both valves share the same vacuum source..

Mike...

I would have thought that was obvious to us because of the previous posts.

Strange that the seller thinks its a Boost Control Valve. Perhaps someone should tell him ?
There's actually quite a few listed incorrectly on eBay, I wonder why ?

I did - Only to be told, that he had just spoken to a "Volvo tech with 20yrs exp" who also said, that I was wrong, and it WAS the boost controller....

How nieve of him. There's no way a real Volvo Tech would make such a basic mistake. Now we know why so many of them are listed incorrectly. Or could it be that other Volvo models actually use it as a boost controller?
