240 Auto Estate wanted - can PX manual one
I need to replace my manual 240 estate with an auto
Would prefer a 2.3 with mechanical injection (pre-cat) but will consider a 2.0 later model if everything else is right Needs to be rust free and in VGC/excellent condition with no issues - I am willing to pay a good price for the right one I would be prepared to trade my excellent condition manual one (see photo below) plus cash if that would be of interest to anyone - or just a straight purchase for cash Probably the beginning of a long search - thought that I would start here Cheers Ian

The good ones seem to go much quicker these days than they used to
Ive missed out on two this week (both late model SE's) as I just couldn't get there in time due to work commitments Spreading the net a bit wider I thought that I would take a look at some 940's and 960's advertised locally. Not bad - and cheaper than a good 240 - but, I suspect that eventually I would pine for my favourite model...... It will be a combination of patience and luck I am willing to consider dealers so if anyone spots one on a forecourt then a heads up would be much appreciated Cheers Ian

A few bits need attention but nothing serious, a good straight 240. Ive just driven it back from Essex.
In consequence - no longer looking. Thanks Ian

Hi Ian,
I have been following you in your quest, sorry to read that you have had to get rid of a pedal! and go for an auto. Nothing wrong with auto's but your manual 240 is a really nice example and I hope it's final home is in agreement with you...................good luck with the new addition. My red 240 went down to Exeter and I filled the space with a Wentworth which shares space with my other Wentworth. I will wager a bet that you keep the red 240, Volvo ownership!! it's in the blood. Glad you have found the right car. I am a bit of an auto fan and have a lot of auto cars. My turbo swap 240 is going to be an auto and staying that way

Thanks guys
My main worry about hanging on to my manual 240 is it just sitting there unused for long periods and the deterioration that may occur because of this - bearing in mind that it will be outside in a parking bay next to my daughters flat - I am going to draft an add for eBay and Gumtree this evening I think

Glad you found an auto 240
I had never driven or owned an automatic and in late 2009/early 2010 bought a 1989 240 GLT auto estate. I have to say I like my auto 240 and have had no major issues. Leaking gearbox tail housing and bent gearbox support but sorted out. Very reliable and like a big go cart. The GLT auto can still keep up with modern traffic and seems to start to come alive from 3,000-5,000rpm. My sister thought it was turbo charged! I find the kickdown addictive!! I do drive it quite briskly. Now 300 miles off 217,000. Using it daily as my work van as it's my only vehicle! James Last edited by volvo always; Oct 19th, 2015 at 22:03. |
